Hi, my name is Ana Karina Cárdenas Bueno and I am the owner and instructor at ENAI, the first and only school in Monterrey, Mexico offering swimming and water survival skills lessons.
In 2008, I received a forwarded email with a video showing a little boy capable of floating on his back and saving himself from drowning. I was speechless. I immediately started investigating where the boy had learned such skills; where were these lessons taking place? I wanted to have all my little cousins and nephews signed up as soon as possible. But there wasn't anybody in the whole country.
I had a big surprise while visiting a good friend in Dallas, TX, when she asked me to go with her to her son's swimming class. We walked into the back yard of his instructor, Beverly Steinfink, and when my friend's son was put in the water, my eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. Santiago (who was then 1 year old) was learning to float on his back, reach the side of the pool without help, fully clothed.
I stayed until the end of the lesson to talk to the instructor. I was amazed by her résumé. She had more than 20 years experience teaching this technique, and almost as many years training instructors. She told me this program not only develops survival skills for babies but also swimming skills for kids up to 6 years of age. She invited me to be part of her program, Infant Aquatics, and after some months of thought I accepted. I quit a great steady job to begin my own career.
A few months later, I went back to Dallas to begin my training. I completed 220 hours of academic study (covering psychology, physiology, swimming theories from various swimming instructors, etc); 135 hours of in water training, and I was able to help more than 15 children master their swim/float/swim.
I came home to start ENAI: Escuela de Natación y Autorescate Infantil (Swimming and Self Rescue School for Infants). ENAI is the first school in Monterrey to offer not only swimming lessons but also a complete self rescue program for children as young as 6 months old. Results are impressive and almost immediate; kids learn this in weeks and not months or years.
I am certified by "Infant Aquatics" as an instructor and by "American Heart Association" for CPR and First Aid, and am very proud to be the second person that has been trained to bring this program to Mexico . (Bev has already trained Erika Kegel , who teaches in León, Gto). I am sure that Monterrey will embrace and value the benefits that ENAI has to offer.
If you do not live in the Monterrey area and would like me to visit your city, don't hesitate to contact me. We may arrange a special course both inside and out of Mexico.
I invite you to take a moment to visit our site and watch the pictures and videos, as well as our FAQ. Please contact me for any other questions you may have.
I hope to meet you soon!
New students: 4 lessons a week (Monday thru Thursday), of 10 minutes each; personalized lessons (one instructor per child). With this frequency, and a constancy commitment, kids learn the technique in approximately 5 to 6 weeks.
Returning students: It is very important to keep practicing after finishing the first course. It is required to return every Friday for group or individual sessions (depending on the child's age), where the child will continue practicing and developing a better technique. If returning every Friday is impossible, we ask of you to return every 6 months for a refreshment course.

Contact us to know the available schedule. We will send you the registration form and the parent manual, which you should read and sign before the first lesson, as well as the fees and the bank information for your first payment.
Lessons are taught from 9:30am to 2:00pm and from 4:00pm to 7:00pm starting every Monday. Lessons last 10 minutes, the first kid comes in the water at 9:00, the second one at 9:10, etc. It is important for the child not to eat 2 hours before the lesson, and not to be tired.

We are always willing to travel out of the city and out of the country to give an intensive course. During these intensive courses, kids attend two lessons a day, with a minimum 1hr break between lessons. They learn the technique in half the estimated time of a regular course.
To arrange ENAI's visit to your town, it is required to form a group of 20 students, have the necessary facilities, and cover the instructor's travel expenses. Contact us for further details.
