Judy's Mailbox - Letters from parents of students
  • My name is Judy Heumann. A graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a B.A. in sociology and psychology, I have been continuously teaching infants and small children swimming and survival skills since 1974. I was first a certified WSI with the Red Cross, later a Master Instructor with ISR, and since 2000, founder of my own program, Infant Aquatic Survival. In each of these capacities, I trained numerous instructors while personally teaching over 5,000 infants and small children to swim and survive in the water. I hold current certifications in both CPR and First Aid.

Judy with IsaacA mother of three competitive swimmers with nearly 35 years of teaching experience, I have dedicated myself to providing the safest and highest quality swimming instruction to my students. The initial focus of IAS lessons is survival in case of an aquatic accident. However, my background and experience enable me to teach skill enhancement, stroke progression, snorkeling, and aquatic education. This allows me to fulfill my long term goal of producing safe, happy swimmers! Recently, I have responded to client requests for more advanced instruction by establishing a comprehensive stroke school. In Infant Aquatics Stroke School, students learn and perfect freestyle and backstroke and are introduced to the butterfly and breaststroke by highly qualified instructors teaching under my direct supervision. Many of my former students have joined swim teams and enjoyed success in competitive age group swimming. They have competed at the state and even national levels. Some continue to swim in college. I take great pride in watching my swimmers progress into accomplished athletes.

    Judy training future instructors

Over the years, many of my students have used their skills to survive an aquatic accident. The knowledge that my teaching has saved lives, and the lasting friendships I have formed with parents and students alike are the rewards of my profession. Because of increasing demand for lessons, I now have a full-time team of qualified instructors teaching with me. Parents are quick to recognize the care we take with our students and the skills our instructors possess. I love teaching children, training instructors and am always eager to talk about my program. Please contact me should you have any further questions, wish to schedule lessons, or need directions to the warm water indoor water park at the Holiday Inn Express. You are always welcome and encouraged to come by the pool and observe lessons in progress. Just give me a call prior to coming, and I can arrange for you to observe children similar in age to your own. Feel free to chat with the parents at the poolside, and be sure to introduce yourself to me. I will be happy to explain to you what skills I am teaching during the lessons.

I hope to be hearing from you and be able to teach your child aquatic survival skills soon.
