My name is Liz Walker, and my entire adult life has centered around the emotional and physical health of children. In l980, I was valedictorian of the College of Family Life at Utah State University. My major emphasis of study was Child Development and Behavioral Psychology. I also received my teaching certificate and taught school for several years.
I first became interested in swimming for young children in 1983, when I enrolled my 15 month old daughter in Infant Swimming Research swimming lessons. This experience led both me and my husband to train as instructors. In 1987, we were certified as Master Instructors, and taught together for several years while he was completing his doctorate degree. We now have 5 children, and as a family enjoy sports of all kinds, but particularly those centered around the water.
In 1989, I opened a swim school of my own and have been exposed to many teaching innovations over the past 20 years. I have been a member of NSSA as well as Infant Aquatics, and enjoy attending national conferences to be updated and learn from other aquatic professionals. I have trained 9 instructors, who care deeply about teaching young children lifesaving skills. My team and I have taught thousands of children, and I am proud to be able to extend my knowledge through them. It is exciting for me to see my program expand and become available to more children around the country. It is also rewarding to observe children's self esteem grow as they master the skills we teach.
