Michelle Alpern

My name is Michelle Alpern and I am the owner of the K.I.S.S. swim program.  My goal is to provide a fun, safe and nurturing environment where children and adults can learn to swim, utilizing the swim-float-swim technique.  I teach adults as well as children, because children, who do not learn to swim, become adults who can not swim.  Each student receives private individual lessons that are designed to meet their specific needs, achieving results in weeks not months.  I am excited to be associated with Infant Aquatics as they are on the cutting edge of providing safe and fun swimming techniques both for instructors and students.

My childhood summers were spent swimming at our local pool and being a member of the swim team.  In high school I certified as a Red Cross lifeguard and certified Water Safety Instructor while in college.  My college summers were spent teaching children to swim.   I raised 3 wonderful sons and most recently was employed as a nanny of 3 children all under the age of 4. My initial exposure to the infant safety program started at that time. I also hold certifications in CPR and AED for children and adults.

I studied with Joy McGinty of Southwest Aquatics and PediaSwim Academy. My training included over 175 hours of pool instruction including child psychology and physiology.  I found working with children of special needs including downs syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism very rewarding.

Once your child learns to swim, the water will become a safe and fun place to play. Always watch your children in water; floatation devices are not a substitute for swim lessons. They can create a false sense of security for both child and parent.  Unfortunately, the US . Consumer Safety Product Commission states that from Memorial Day 2010 to Labor Day 2010 there were 10 children in Ohio who drowned and 11 non-fatal incidences.  These numbers are very similar to Arizona, Texas and Florida.  One child lost is TOO MANY!

The time to start swim lessons is when your child is young and mobile. Spring and summer go by very quickly here in Ohio.  Giving your child the gift to swim year round, will prove to be life saving.  Swimming is great for exercise, coordination and fun!

Please check out this site for videos and pictures that will show you what the K.I.S.S. program can achieve.

I look forward to hearing from you soon...    Michelle
